“I saw firsthand that kids who otherwise had challenges with things like focus and concentration thrived with both when challenged with the prospect of catching a fish. I also saw kids getting over their fears right in front of me as they worked to understand the natural world.” – Shore Volunteer, Lake Washington

2018 Event Recap
The anticipation began to build as all prepared for the children’s arrival. The Northwest University girls softball team were positioned near the parking lot to greet participants with cheers and a warm welcome. Families and boat captains were paired and smiles were seen as volunteers served each family. Once all participants were out fishing, even some of our shore volunteers grabbed a Cadence rod & reel and fished from the docks. Kids gradually arrived back from an eventful morning of fishing. A craft table was set up (thanks to Valley Medical nurses) and thank you cards to our donors were scattered at the lunch tables that kids enjoyed coloring. Once all were served lunch, the awards ceremony began. We remembered Leigh Davidson, whose presence was missed, as this event was in his memory. His generosity helped make our Puget Sound events possible. Two Sea Gals joined in the festivities, shaking their pompoms as each child came forward to tell their fish story and receive a commemorative plaque and certificate. Then, they were invited to choose a prize as an extra treat. We are so grateful to all who came and contributed to make this another incredible Lake Washington C.A.S.T. for Kids event!
