C.A.S.T. Fish Tip #1: How to Unhook a Fish

Today, Jay Yelas, professional bass fisherman and Executive Director of the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, is going to teach you how to unhook a fish. He’ll demonstrate on this small mouth bass on a jig.

When you catch a fish, there are two ways to grab it. One is by the lower jaw by putting your thumb in his mouth. Grab it’s lower jaw and then you can take the hook out safely.

The other way to grab a fish when you catch him is to squeeze its gill plates. That will paralyze him too. This allows you to unhook the fish. It’s pretty simple.
