2016 Event Recap

The 10th annual Ian Surrat  Memorial C.A.S.T. event was held July 14, 2016. 20 children from the Cook Children’s Hospital of Fort Worth attended. This was double the number of children who attended the 2015 event. Special thanks to Cook Hospital’s Child Life Specialist Vickie Knight for working to bring so many children to our event in 2016.

Catfish were the name of the game this event as many children found them to be biting in abundance this year. The Fun and Sun Boats pro staff once again came out to provide vessels for the children to fish from. Thanks to Monte Reagan for once again making this happen. Coordinator Troy Moncrief provided a water slide which many children enjoyed to fight off the 100 degree heat. Troy mentioned next year, we may have the event in June to help out a tad with the temperature.

All in all a fantastic event funded by the Ft Worth Sportsman’s club. This group is a fantastic supporter of children’s agencies throughout Texas.

We are ready for 2017!

2015 Event Recap

9th Annual Ian Surratt Memorial CAST Event

On Thursday, July 30, 2015, we held our ninth annual Ian Surratt memorial C.A.S.T. for Kids event. Once again, we hosted children and families from the Cook Children’s medical center in Fort Worth Texas. All of the children participating were battling various forms of cancer.

Although the weather was hot this day, the skies were blue and the winds were low. As is the case every year, Fun and Sun Boating Centers brought their entire 15 member pro staff out to take the children fishing. The fast ride in the Skeeter bass boat’s were welcomed relief for the 10 children and their immediate families on this very warm Texas morning.

Many of the boaters, and several of the children participated in previous years. This made it possible for one very special occurrence. The grandfather of one of the children received a phone call a few days prior to the event from one of the fun and sun pro staff fisherman…simply to check on them and make sure that they were going to attend again this year. The grandfather mentioned to the boater that his grandson was very close to receiving his Eagle scout certification in Boy Scouts of America. The final step was to catch a fish on a fly rod, name the species, clean, cook, and eat the fish. Lo and behold, unbeknownst to all, the boater showed up with a fly rod, fillet knife, and portable propane grill. He then took the young man out fishing where he caught several bluegill. They then cleaned the fish, and the boy categorized and then ate the fish. Mission accomplished. Full-fledged Eagle Scout.

Just another amazing example of what occurs at our C.A.S.T. for Kids events. Big hearted people doing special things, for a very special children.
