2017 marked the return of the DWR sponsored C.A.S.T. for kids event on Castaic Lake outside Los Angeles CA. This event was not held for 3 years due to dangerously low lake levels caused by the Southern California drought. Twenty children of special needs and their families were hosted this year. Amazingly, many of the same volunteers from past years returned to bless these children with a great day of fishing. It seems the children were not the only people excited to see C.A.S.T. return! Several largemouth bass were brought in for everyone to view as well as the usual assortment of sunfish that have brought smiles to so many children’s faces over the many years the foundation has held events. Everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the Lions Club.
All are excited already for 2018! See you there!

2012 Event Recap:
October 6th dawned as a beautiful fall day for the 2012 C.A.S.T. event at Castaic Lake. The warm weather was welcomed by the 41 C.A.S.T. participants who went out on the lake to fish from 28 boats. The event ran smoothly with the coordination of more than 100 volunteers, including DWR staff from Southern Field Division, Southern Region and Public Affairs, Friends of Castaic Lake, Castaic Lions Club, and Castaic Lake staff.
The crowd was entertained by Daffy Duck, courtesy of nearby Six Flags Magic Mountain. Daffy assisted with the presentation of plaques and gift bags. Magic Mountain also offered two entry passes for a C.A.S.T. participant raffle.
Volunteers assisted with registration, life jacket, bait, pole and tackle distribution and breakfast lunch preparation.
