“We loved it so much! It was a huge blessing to receive the equipment and the boat captains were so patient and motivated to teach the kids a new skill. My son loved fishing and felt real special receiving the plaque, he hung it up on his wall as soon as we got home! More events like this are needed!”
“Awesome program that helped my daughter realize what she could do, helped us as parents see what she could do, helped the volunteers see what she could do, helped those watching see what she could do. Profound success.”

2018 Event Recap
May 19th was the perfect day for boating and fishing in Abilene, TX at our local Lake Ft. Phantom with plenty of sun and 20 mph wind for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center to host their 3rd Annual CAST for Kids event! Forty two pediatric patients from the West Texas Rehabilitation Center who have various diagnoses from physical to mental disabilities had a fun filled day of boating and fishing. The pediatric patients enjoyed it even more when all the bouncing bass boats filled the lake. The local bass clubs (Arrow Ford, Stillwaters, and Jim Ned Bass Clubs) in the Abilene area were generous to bring out their boats and their fishing expertise. Bank fishing was available for the children once they completed their boating and fishing and they also released all their fish after taking pictures with them! United Supermarkets donated all the food and water for the event and those were the juiciest hamburgers and quail wraps as well as delicious cookies feeding over 200 family members and volunteers. The kids and boaters enjoyed an award ceremony and the kids were delighted to receive their new fishing rods and reels, tackle boxes and individual award with the picture of their boater. Smiles and tears filled the boater’s eyes when taking pictures with their new “fishing buddy”. Some of our special kids at the Rehab caught 9 or 10 good size bass, what an amazing day!!
