2018 Event Recap

The 2nd annual Umpqua River CAST for Kids event was an incredible success, as 21 participants got to enjoy a float down the legendary Umpqua in drift boats.  This is a unique event, floating for 2 miles down the river. The fishing was superb, and all kids caught several smallmouth bass.  One child caught 38 bass!  The weather was excellent, and 14 boaters participated including the foundations Easter Regional Director Jeff Barnes who volunteered as a boat captain while he was on vacation in Oregon with his family.

2017 Event Recap

For our first event it went pretty smooth. I heard we may have broken the record for the most fish ever caught at a C.A.S.T. event!   The weather was ideal !  Every kid caught plenty of Smallmouth Bass. At the awards ceremony I was really moved about how the kids responded to receiving their plaque . One memorable kid ran up so fast to receive his he couldn’t stop himself and  did a Pete Rose slide in the grass to slow down as the crowd erupted in laughter. This was a very good day … Thanks!

“My son had so much fun…can’t wait til next year. He slept with his award last night…” – Mom, Umpqua River
