2017 Event Recap

The 2017 Lake Chickamauga C.A.S.T. for Kids event was held this year at Chester Frost Park in Hixson, TN.  The event was held at the parks shelter # 1 and had a pavilion as well as plenty of parking.  There was a 50 foot pier that was used to load and unload the children and their parents into the volunteer boats.  There were 61 shore volunteers, probably too many for this event site, many of the volunteers were from two local high school fishing teams, Rhea County High and Soddy Daisy High.  The TVA sponsored the event and had several representatives attend the event and provided a PA System as well as gift bags for the children.  CATCH Ministry helped provide and serve the lunch which was donated by the Olive Garden Restaurants of the Chattanooga, TN area.  Blue Cross, Blue Shield of TN provided several volunteers as well who helped with the event set-up as well as the event photographs. The event was shortened by a large thunderstorm warning, the awards were done before lunch to keep everyone from leaving and we were very lucky that the storm did not reach us.  The children that were able to spend time on the boats caught fish, but the shore fishing was not any good, even with the assistance of the high school fishing volunteers.  Lots of community support for this event, the weather probably kept some of the registered children and volunteers from participating.
