“Great day with the kids. Thanks for teaching us all, our fisherman was so helpful! Looking forward to taking the kids out again with the rods they received.” – Parent, Fishing Kids event

This is a Fishing Kids event designed to provide all children, ages 5-14, the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing. Each event varies due to the location and other variables. At this location, 300 children will have the opportunity to receive a Fishing Kids t-shirt and rod & reel to keep! The kids will fish in groups on-shore for up to 45 minutes receiving instruction by experienced anglers on angling techniques and environmental stewardship.  The parents are encouraged to participate with their children and prior to each fishing session each group receives a tutorial on water safety.

Registration for this event is run through the Kitsap County Parks Department. Registration is only online and will be open around April 1st. Pre-registering is required; be aware this is a popular event and fills up each year.

Volunteers: On-shore volunteers are needed to assist the kids fish, hand out gear, clean fish, etc. Are you with a group – sign up with your group and have one person contact the Committee Chairperson with the total number in your group. Are you an individual who would like to volunteer – contact the Committee Chairperson and let us know your name, phone number, and what you’d like to help out with. Thanks!

300 kids came to Island Lake where they had an educational Water Safety Talk, received a rod and reel to keep and got to catch and keep up to two fish! Every participant left with a smile on their face and were able to bring up to two cleaned fish home. The weather was beautiful and we are so thankful for the 80 volunteers who dedicated their time and service to make this memorable day for the children and local community.
