“They amaze me at times. I had a child that never had a rod and reel in his hand before. He was casting in the first 20 minutes AND enjoyed it more than any person I have ever seen cast.” – Shore Volunteer, Packery Channel, TX

Recently, the City of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department’s Beach Operations partnered with the organization C.A.S.T. “Catch a Special Thrill” for Kids Foundation to provide fun in the sun for special needs children. 48 children and 35 volunteers participated in the fishing adventure at Packery Channel. Kids were paired with an angling buddy and received their own rod and reel, a tackle box with supplies, and a t-shirt.

Breakfast consisted of doughnuts and kolaches.  Afterwards we had a meet and greet between the children, their families, and the volunteers.  Next the children went fishing until it started to rain.  A brief shower cooled off the kids before returning to fishing until rain was once again spotted on the horizon.  At that time we had a rushed lunch in the rain courtesy of Jack’s Dinner Bell.
