Event Recap 2016

Jean Lafitte Harbor was the site for this event coordinated by Chris Neau of New Orleans. The fishing community of Lafitte, LA helped support this event that saw 35 children get the opportunity to do some fishing with some very experienced boat captain volunteers. Lots of speckled trout and red fish were caught out on the Louisiana Delta and the kids had a great time! The Harbor had a very nice pavilion that was the location for registration, the lunch, and awards. The kids had a great lunch of jambalaya, hot dogs, and chili once they got off of the water followed by an awards ceremony. The day couldn’t have been any better; beautiful weather, great volunteers, and some very special children made this a very special day!

Event Recap 2015

On Saturday, November 7th, the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation held our first event in Louisiana at Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, LA.  It was truly a great day, as several special needs children got to experience the thrill of fishing and boating on the bayou.  Volunteer boaters came from as far away as Baton Rouge to take these wonderful children fishing.  A morning on the water was followed by a Jambalaya picnic lunch for everyone and then an awards ceremony for the children.  At the awards, each child was recognized by name, then walked forward to receive their trophy and tell their stories from the water over the PA system.  The whole day was about them, and it meant so much to the kids and their families as there are not many activities out there designed specifically for special needs populations.  The kids, parents, and volunteers all left with big smiles and warm hearts.
