“Awesome program that helped my daughter realize what she could do, helped us as parents see what she could do, helped the volunteers see what she could do, helped those watching see what she could do. Profound success.”
This is a C.A.S.T. for Kids event designed to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing. 2018 Event Recap:
Sunday, April 15, 2018 was an absolutely Chamber of Commerce weather CAST For Kids foundation event at Calaveras Lake Park. 32 children of special needs enjoyed an incredible day of fishing from shore. Every single participant caught catfish provided by the Texas Parks and wildlife department. Once again, CPS energy out of San Antonio provided tents and other facilities for the event. Special thanks go out to all of the volunteers she showed up to help provide these children with a fun field, relaxing morning on the water. A1 fire safety equipment once again cooked everyone a delicious meal. Thanks to all of the sponsors who helped make this incredible day possible.
2017 Event Recap:
On Sunday, April 9, 2017 Calaveras Lake was the site of the 2nd Annual CAST event for special education students from SCUCISD. We had 36 participants including family members and 70 volunteers. Just shy of 200 people!!! That is double from last year’s event. Thanks to TPWD, the anglers caught tons of fish. Some of the anglers caught their very first fish. Everyone enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs that were cooked by Harry Hewlett from Schertz Fire Dept. Parents were so thankful for the efforts of CAST and what they do for kids.
