“Awesome program that helped my daughter realize what she could do, helped us as parents see what she could do, helped the volunteers see what she could do, helped those watching see what she could do. Profound success.”
This is a C.A.S.T. for Kids event designed to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing. 2016 Event Recap:
On Sunday, May 15th, 20 kids from the SCUCISD (Schertz- Cibolo/ Universal City School Districts) Special Olympics participated in the C.A.S.T. for Kids event at Calaveras Lake. The pouring rain did not dampen these kids’ desire to catch fish. Every child caught a fish, with some catching numerous fish. A special thanks to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for stocking over 600 catfish in a designated area that was netted in order to maximize our chances to catch fish. Most of the participants had never caught a fish, let alone been fishing. Our volunteers made sure that their day was special and would give them a lifetime of memories. The parents were extremely grateful and had great things to say about the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation and their mission. Special thanks to our sponsors: Markgraf Construction, Yellow Cab, Roadrunner Towing, Sippel Hardware, A1 Fire and Safety, Farwest Enviromental, Hill and Wilkinson, Academy, Zebco, Plano, and a huge thank you to CPS Energy for their selfless giving. Special thanks to Harry Hewlett, Melissa Reichenau, Schertz FD, Cibolo FD and the many other great volunteers.
