2017 Event Recap

June 10, 2017 was a nice, hot, sunny and windy day at Lake Ft Phantom in Abilene, TX for the second annual West Texas Rehabilitation Center C.A.S.T. for Kids event. Forty-one pediatric patients from West Texas Rehabilitation Center who have various diagnoses from physical to mental disabilities and their families had a fun-filled day of boating and fishing on windy Lake Ft. Phantom. In fact, the pediatric patients enjoyed it even more when all the bouncing bass boats filled the lake. Local Bass Clubs: Arrow Ford Bass Club, Still Waters Bass Club, Jim Ned Bass Club members and even a few employees from West Texas Rehabilitation Center brought boats for the kids and their families to enjoy. Bank fishing was available for the children once they completed their boating. United Supermarkets fed over 190 volunteers, participants, boaters and family members delicious sausage wraps, jalepeno poppers, quail wraps, chips and cookies. The kids and boaters enjoyed an award ceremony and the kids were delighted with their new fishing rods and reels, tackle boxes and individual award with the picture of them and their boater. United Supermarkets presented each child with their personal Teddy Bear. Smiles and tears filled the boater’s eyes when taking pictures with their new “fishing buddy”. Boaters interviewed their “fishing buddy” and some kids caught 1-23 fish on their private fishing trip. It was a great day and families remarked how they could not believe how much fun they all had. Looking forward to another great C.A.S.T. event year in 2018!
