“Today we saw the magic, how one fish can change a life forever. Our daughter has been in a wheelchair since birth. Regardless of her limits, she enjoyed the freedom of riding in a beautiful boat, catching three fish, then watching seals, birds and other boaters passing by.  We could never do this, without the kindness of the boaters and people at C.A.S.T.”

2018 Event Recap-What to expect

As the parents or caregiver to a special needs child, who is a forever child, we know you always worry about the safety and acceptance of your family when attending an event.  Our C.A.S.T. family realizes those concerns. We understand inclusion and feeling welcomed. That is why we have so many volunteers who have worked many years with C.A.S.T. for Kids. Our family of boater captains and shore volunteers, serve in very specific areas of expertise. Thus your family is safe, wanted and welcomed. The magic of a fish is very powerful. Families who attend this event are able to just “leave their troubles on the shore” and enjoy a fun fishing event.

From the moment you arrive on site, you are greeted at the entrance and given personal directions to the registration site. This is located at the marina launch area. You will have a parking spot just for you. Then you will be welcomed with a friendly smile and a lot of laughter. You will meet other families as each child and family members are welcomed with a name tag, a special C.A.S.T. for Kids team jersey, a C.A.S.T. for Kids hat and a tackle box and fishing rod. What you see in your custom built tackle box was prepared for you from Mr. Kevin Yost. He has spent the last eight months gathering just what you need to catch giant fish. Then we will custom fit your child for a lifejacket, which is yours to keep after the event is over, as is the rest of the fishing and tackle equipment. Our event is one day, but with your new equipment, we hope your fishing lasts a lifetime.

Once you get registered, one parent or guardian must go on the boat with you, and join the boater captain volunteer, who has waited all year for this day, to met you. These boaters and fishermen have been getting your boat ready for this day. They have been loading secret fishing lures. They have been planning for your family, as their special guests, who want GIANT fish. These guys and gals know right where to go, to land some BIG memories and have you enjoy your day. We have boaters who have traveled from Reno, Nevada to be at this event! We are calling them the Wolfpack. We have gals that are also boater captains, and these ladies can tow a boat, launch and get your family on fishing memories that will keep you smiling. At 8:27am we will have the National Anthem, and then [email protected]! The fishing fun begins. The boater captains will let you know to sit down and get ready for a super fun day. For us on shore, what is happening while you are fishing?

We are getting a delicious hot BBQ lunch ready from Waterloo Restaurant. We are loading ice into the coolers for nice cold drinks and waters. We are setting up the music, the stage, the awards, the red carpet of champions, and the cameras. The photo booth, brought to us by Tailspin Party Productions. Terry & Terry will be at our 2018 event, with all the fun ingredients to make your candid photos filled with laughter and good times. We arrange the picnic tables, setting up tents if needed, and get the food buffet line ready for hungry and starving fishing crews. We feed approximately 250 people in about 45 minutes.

At about 12:15-12:30 or so, boaters start coming back in. Remember however, that if you get tired on the water, you come back in at ANY TIME. Children, fish and smiles are lining up to be recognized. Groups are at the photo booth. Everyone is getting delicious hot lunch. Families are un-loading and our boater captains are getting their boats onto their trailers and joining their new fishing friend for a tasty hot BBQ lunch, sitting together under the shade of the trees which overlook the very waterway they just fished. At this time, every person at our event, including all of our volunteers will hear the unique fishing stories of fun, wildlife and boating fun they had together. Newt and Jennifer Price and their staff from NewJen Bass Tournaments, will present the child and the boater captain with a custom photo award plaque, recognizing their accomplishments and courage, as well as their new forged friendship. Once all boater teams have been recognized, we will gather all of our C.A.S.T. family, and hold our very unique custom created closing ceremony. #DontMissTheBoat on this amazing and creative ceremony, where we gather to celebrate your child and your new fishing family C.A.S.T. for Kids.

We appreciate the trust and confidence you place in our volunteers and fishing family. Get registered quickly, as we fill our capacity fast. We have waited all year to see you. Get on deck and get fishing with our guys and gals. They have just the right plan for fun, smiles, laughter while fishing on the BIG BASS FACTORY, known as the California Delta.
