Hi folks! Jay Yelas here.

Today, I’m going to demonstrate how to use the kid’s rod we give to all the children at our C.A.S.T. for Kids events.

This is a beautiful new Cadence spincasting rod. (Spincasting: A type of rod/reel combo. There are 3 types: baitcasting, spinning, and spincasting.)

The first thing you want to do is to set the drag properly. (Drag: Feature on every reel that allows line to be pulled off the reel by heavy pressure on the end of the line.)

When the drag is properly set, a big fish will pull drag and not break the line. The drag is the little knob. You want to set it so if you hook a great big fish, he won’t snap your line. So, you want to pull some line out with your hand. If the line comes out too easily, tighten the drag a little bit and then you’re ready to go.

So to cast this Cadence rod, which is a spincast reel, what I’m going to do is I’m going to push down on this button with my thumb. Then, as I come forward on the cast, I’m going to release my thumb and it will send the reel flying out like that. Then you can just reel it in.

These are awesome little rods for the kids to use. We’ve had kids catch catfish up to 20lbs. or so already at C.A.S.T. for Kids events this year with these little poles.

That’s how you do it. I’ll demonstrate it one more time. You press the button with your thumb. As you come forward with the rod on the cast, you release your thumb, and the lure goes flying out there.

Let’s go fishing!
